Located on Perseverance Street in Barnsley, Springfield Vale is a purpose-built nursing home for adults living with complex dementia and other neurological and physical needs. The home features 33 en-suite bedrooms across three small units, creating a more personal and homely environment where residents can receive personalised support whilst maintaining their independence. Designed in partnership with the University of Stirling’s Dementia Services Development Centre (DSDC), dementia-friendly design is prioritised throughout its interiors. Light reflectance values and clear colour contrast are used throughout the home to help residents distinguish key features, navigate spaces more easily and feel confident in their surroundings. Having achieved a Gold Design Award accreditation, every detail has been carefully considered to support comfort and promote wellbeing.
At Barons, we also have a great understanding of how furniture choices and thoughtful design can positively influence the experiences of people living with dementia. With members of our team completing RIBA-approved dementia design training through the DSDC, we have developed valuable expertise in creating supportive, dementia-friendly environments. This knowledge helped us contribute to Springfield Vale, where we worked with Exemplar Health Care to supply a selection of bespoke and contract-grade furniture across communal areas, bedrooms, dining rooms, and visitor facilities.

Project Details
For Springfield Vale, we supplied furniture designed to support the home’s dementia-friendly approach, with each product carefully selected to provide lasting comfort and contribute to a homely feel. In the central hub, we supplied and installed bespoke bench seating in a natural wood shade, upholstered in ILIV Amaryllis Spring and Nevis Pistachio fabrics, alongside Solo Tub Chairs, Stylo Circular Dining Tables, and Ilary Bar Stools in coordinating upholstery to create a welcoming social environment.
The bedrooms were furnished with warm, residential-style furniture, including Vermont Double Wardrobes, and Bedside Tables with Doors and Drawers in Mountain Oak and Mussel wood shades. Seating was provided in the form of Hannah High Back Chairs, Antonia Chairs, and Bexley High Back Chairs, finished in soft neutral fabrics such as ILIV Burghley Ivory and Hammond Storm. Hounslow Headboards completed the bedrooms, providing extra support.
In the dining rooms, we provided flexible furniture solutions to support residents’ independence and comfort. Lugo Square Adjustable Height Tables offered adaptable dining options, whilst Bespoke Bench Seating in ILIV Amaryllis Papaya and Panaz Aston Platinum fabrics added a welcoming feature. These were paired with Riley Dining Chairs in ILIV Hammond Zest and Stylo Square Dining Tables for a coordinated look.
The lounges were designed to be calming, offering plenty of opportunities for relaxation and social interaction. We supplied Cambridge 2 Seater Sofas upholstered in Panaz Ashton Mist with Panaz Aston Eau de Nil piping, alongside Camden High Back Chairs, Cannes 3 Cube Shelves, and Portland Tall Lamp Tables to create comfortable and practical communal areas. For the visitor room, we provided an Inca Sofa Bed in ILIV Everett Denim, alongside Portland Small Lamp Tables, Portland 3 Shelf Bookcases, and Camden Tub Chairs, helping create a comfortable environment that feels inviting.
