The Manor House, Barnard Castle
Set within the charming market town of Barnard Castle, County Durham, The Manor House is one of many care homes run by Anchor, England’s largest provider of specialist housing and person-centred care for people in later life. The environment includes dining rooms, library areas, spacious lounges for socialising, and even a private sensory garden, helping support people with dementia, as well as allowing them to enjoy their independence and have access to 24-hour care.
When Anchor wanted a large-scale refurbishment of all the communal areas, they partnered once again with Studio Aitchay and with Barons as their sole supplier of contract furniture and soft furnishings. By providing a full range of high-quality furniture and soft furnishings, Barons contributed to the creation of welcoming, functional, and beautiful spaces that residents and staff will appreciate for years to come.

Project Details
The refurbishment of The Manor House covered a large variety of communal areas, bringing Studio Aitchay’s design vision to life through practical, comfortable, and stylish furniture items that are made in the UK and backed by our relationships with reputable fabric manufacturers. For the dining areas, Barons supplied Swale Dining Chairs, upholstered in a mix of Panaz Eve Rosewood and Shibori Indigo. These items were complemented with Lola Dining Chairs, featuring bold Skopos Encanto Onda backs and ILIV Saddle Aegean seats, to create a soft and welcoming atmosphere.
For the lounge and social areas, Barons provided a variety of seating options, including an Ashford 2 Seater Sofa in ILIV Belgravia Indigo, as well as Pandora High Back and Mid Back Chairs, which were finished in Panaz Pimpernel Ink and Sage. To complement these, Bexley Side Chairs were upholstered in Ashley Wilde Toulouse Miguel Ink, helping provide lasting comfort for residents who want to relax.
Standout features and bespoke elements played a major role in shaping the communal zones. Barons supplied Bespoke Cannes Open Cube Dividers, finished in striking Alpine Green, to help keep areas open and organised. For the coffee bar, integrated bench seating upholstered in ILIV Belgravia Azure encouraged casual socialising, whilst Gold Base Footstools added pops of colour and texture.
Occasional and specialist seating was carefully considered, too, coming in the form of Diana and Solo Tub Chairs that were upholstered in a rich mix of textures and tones. Danyelle Tub Chairs showcased an exciting blend of Agua Boucle Cream, Ashley Wilde Monterey Hampton Indigo, and Skopos Salsa Bougainvillea, which demonstrates Barons’ commitment to fabric variety and detail. Finally, for the hair salon, Sofia Styling Chairs were supplied so that residents can sit in comfort during pamper sessions.
