Barons Helps Furnish Groundbreaking Dementia Care Village
Back in 2019, the Barons team were called upon to help furnish a care home in Warwick. However, this wasn’t like any care home we’d furnished before – the care home operators had created a care home that felt like a village, with the purpose of making life feel as normal as possible for their residents.
Woodside Care Village took inspiration from a different care home based in the Netherlands. In Hogeweyk Care Village, residents can walk around freely, visit the shop, get their hair done, go to the post office and more, all within a monitored care facility – the Dutch experiment mirrors everyday life for residents with dementia.

When contacting us for contract furniture, WCS Care, operators of Woodside Care Village, requested that familiarity be the main focus point, giving residents, including people living with dementia, an environment that felt welcoming and homely. We worked with their interior designers to bring this vision to life, supplying a lot of our bedroom furniture to furnish most of the bedrooms in their facility – delivering dressing tables, wardrobes, storage boxes, drawers, cabinets, TV units, and plenty more.
We were extremely proud to work with WCS on bringing their vision to life here in the UK, and hope other care homes can follow in their footsteps so that more people can have the utmost comfort when living in a care home. 70% of people in care homes have dementia or severe memory problems (source: CPEC), so it’s extremely important that the care industry caters to this demographic.
Here at Barons, we have a range of products designed to be dementia-friendly – our challenging environment furniture has been a saving grace for care homes all across the UK, making life easier for both staff and residents. Our dementia-friendly furniture features soft rounded corners, easy grip handles, memory boxes, Perspex viewing panels in wardrobes so contents are visible and plenty more. Because our goals, to create comfortable living environments for residents, including people living with dementia, align with those of WCS Care, we were the perfect choice to help them outfit their new care village.

Woodside Care Village continues to thrive! In December, the facility was featured in The Guardian, being deservedly recognised for its pioneering work in dementia care. The care home has also previously won an LABC award for ‘Best Purpose-Built Accommodation’!
