World Mental Health Day 2025
10th October 2025 is World Mental Health Day and celebrates the 77th anniversary of mental health advocacy by the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH). Since its founding, the organisation has worked to increase understanding of mental health on a global scale, prevent the onset of mental illness, and encourage positive, recovery-focused approaches that support people’s wellbeing.
According to statistics, around 1 in 4 people in England will experience a mental health problem each year. Meanwhile, 1 in 6 adults report experiencing a common mental health issue such as anxiety or depression every week. Both figures act as a reminder of just how vital it is to keep the conversation going and ensure that support is always accessible.
This year, the theme for World Mental Health Day is ‘mental health in catastrophes and emergencies’. The theme highlights the importance of people being able to protect their mental health in times of global instability, which is crucial in a digital age where people have access to so much information about events occurring around the world.
Whether you’re personally struggling or concerned about someone close to you, it’s important to remember that support is always available. Don’t hesitate to reach out for help, and if you aren’t sure where to start, here are a few trusted charities and helplines that can offer guidance, advice, and someone to talk to when you need it most:
