Barons would like to inform all our customers of the current foam issues within the furniture manufacturing industry.

TDI chemical shortages are posing a threat to the supply of foam to the furniture industry within Europe. There’s less of the chemical being manufactured within Europe so the foam is being imported from other countries within the US and Asia. The importation costs and time mean that European businesses are facing sudden supply shortages and an increase in prices.

Reported by Plasteurope.com:

“Imports do not nearly compensate for local production, many foam producers are on allocation, significantly down compared to requested volumes, and are thus struggling to supply their customers.”

The British Furniture Manufacturers (BFM) is also warning companies about the TDI shortage, with Sean Holt, BFM’s MD commenting:

“There’s a significant reduction in the manufacture of TDI from the European facilities, which supply many of our members.

We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide members with regular updates, which will hopefully help them to navigate the situation ahead.”

If you have any enquiries or questions regarding the above, the Barons team will be happy to provide more information. Simply contact us and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
