The Barons team recently completed a major refurbishment in the Grand Avenue Day Centre.

Located in Ely, Cardiff, this specialist dementia centre is designed to provide support to both impacted individuals and their carers.

Despite its importance within the Cardiff community, the Grand Avenue Day Centre building was dated, tired and in urgent need of a refresh. Members of staff had subsequently struggled with the facility’s shortcomings for several years.

A rejuvenation project was to be undertaken with the aim of evoking memories of bygone times in and around the city of Cardiff. Cardiff Council's in-house Projects, Design & Development team devised a street theme for the building, complete with streetlamps along the walls and images of the city in years gone by.

The use of bold colour palettes and vibrant fabrics was also considered to help dementia sufferers establish time and place more easily.

Alison Kendall, Barons’ Area Sales Manager, liaised with the project’s coordinators and organised a visit through our unique Display Van service. This enabled each party to see Barons’ exquisite furniture ranges in-situ free-of-charge and without obligation to purchase.

Barons manufactures furniture that is specifically designed for communal and activity-based environments, making Barons a natural choice to assist in the completion of this project.

The Grand Avenue Day Centre is now beautifully finished throughout and has already proven a hit with residents, staff and visitors alike. New upholstery, furniture and soft furnishings from Barons have helped to give the entire facility a well-deserved boost.

This rejuvenation work didn’t just include new furniture; there is also an all-new entrance foyer, improved access, upgrades to bathrooms and fresh interior decoration.

The Barons team would like to congratulate Cardiff Council and everyone who has worked together to make this large-scale refurbishment process a success. The Day Centre’s workers now have a comfortable and fit-for-purpose space where they can continue to provide invaluable support to those living with dementia.
